Off to the dentist..

I have been always proud of my teeth because I haven't had much problems with it. Never had a tooth extraction, prob only had 1 or 2 fillings done in my entire life and that was only because of a small tiny hole and even the dentist would praise me for keeping my teeth healthy and clean until now.

An oversight of mine to take it for granted that my teeth will always be in good condition so i have not gone to see my dentist in years and never had it scaled and cleaned for more than 2 years now which is a big NO NO!!

Yesterday, i decided to make full use of my private health care cover because they offer twice a year free scale, clean and flouride on your teeth! There I was thinking out loud that i should be going since i haven't been been for so long and probably won't take long but at the back of my mind, i was abit worried..worried because two days ago, i had this really nagging toothache and i kinda had this really bad feeling about this. So, i made an appointment and was on the dental chair having my teeth checked out by the dentist who comfirmed my dreaded fear - A Tooth Decay which needs to be extracted!!

I was crying out silently to myself when suddenly i couldn't hear what the dentist was telling me. I could only hear the words..decay...extraction...not good...PAIN....sigh..this is what you get for neglecting your health and it gets worse! Apparently, my wisdom teeth on the bottom left corner is not growing the way it should so it is impacting my teeth and my dentist has suggested that I go for a dental surgery to have that tooth extracted out as well. Once again, i felt that pain would inhibit my life..pain in my mouth..i could imagine Ironchef in my mind hiding his smile because he wouldn't have to hear me nag for the next few days after my extraction..his way of getting back at me!! Oooh..sweet revenge..hmph!!

So, next week Thursday, i am booked in to have my tooth extracted but i have already probably winged about it to one million people i know about having my tooth extracted and it is actually a very small minor thing but to me...because i havent' had one before..this is serious business!!!

Well, wish me luck and hope to hear from me..or rather..read from me soon...

The big picture..

It is funny how certain things work out beyond your wildest imagination and how or when the impossible becomes possible. When you take a step back and reflect, you realise then that really ..truly everything happens for a reason, be it good or bad. Things fall into place unexpectedly and leads to the next without you knowing when, how and what will happen..if it is meant to be, it is meant to be at some point in time and when it does eventually happen, you know then why things had to happen and to understand that the big picture does exist.

I finally found a piece of a jigsaw puzzle towards my understanding of the big picture and although i still have more to learn and more to face, I am going to embrace whatever happens with an open mind and heart.

Sick as a DOG!

It has got to be my worst week last week. I was sick as a dog with flu, fever, sore throat and cough. It sounds like symptoms of SWINE FLU but thank god, it is NOT. Not only am i sick but so was Ironchef and we got it from our kids so while they have all recovered, it has now passed on to us poor unfortunate parents who have to endure it all.

I am still coughing my guts out but definately feeling sooo much better and today, the kids amused me again! and I had to take a picture of them..

Tinkerbell says she is mummy and lil rascal who is obviously daddy driving them to the doctor because her baby, Rosie is coughing so needs to see the doctor. Before this, she was frantically looking for her lil pink handbag and then off they all sat on the couch and you can hear Lil rascal honking away in his make believe steering wheel and turning right and left with this signal lights! It was really an amusing sight..sigh..kids learn so fast nowadays.

Being locked out..

A classic hilarious case of the parents being locked out of the house while both kids are inside and the challenges of getting them to open the door for you!

This happened two weeks ago when both Ironchef and I went out to help Rita move her column heater to her car. Lil Tinkerbell then closed the door and locked it from inside and both Ironchef and I were in our shorts and T-shirt. Mind you, this was in the evening and temperatures were about 15 degrees! So there we were, both of us outside the house with both kids inside!

Ironchef had to first try and locate Lil Tinkerbell to see where she was because Lil rascal was not tall enough to open the door so our only hope was to get Tinkerbell to open the door. So, we finally managed to locate her and she was in her room, so Ironchef yelled from outside through her window to get her to go outside and open the doors for us while i tried my luck with Lil rascal. I told Lil rascal through the window to call for Jie jie and ask her to come out. So, both of us were screaming to our kids through the window to get someone to open the door for us but noone budged!

I could hear Lil Rascal calling out for Jie jie but each time he came back to the window telling me," Mama..Jie jie not coming out.."

Ironchef obviously had no luck in getting Tinkerbell out as well so we were both locked out from our own home for 15 mins or so and there was no other possible entry points to the house as well! So this called for some serious thinking!

I then went over to Tinkerbell's window and yelled out to her," Oh look, Aunty Rita has brought lots of chocolates for you and didi..come quick and open the door!!" 10 seconds later, the door was open and WHACK..that was the sound of Ironchef hitting Tinkerbell's butt!

After that, came alot of scolding followed by pep talk! Trust me, it was not a pleasant incident but now i can't help but to laugh about it recalling the incident!

The day the parents got locked out of the house!!

Lil Tinkerbell's drawing

Today, Lil Tinkerbell came back from kindy with a very impressive drawing of herself! hahaha..and i must say i was very amused. Firstly, she is an Asian so she has black hair but in the drawing, the colour of her hair was yellow but she told me it was because there was no black crayons around.

Good effort for a first timer..hahaha..am sending this to her grandmother now for keeps.

Something to be proud of..

I was thrilled to receive an email from the Talented and Gifted Children's Association of South Australia to learn that Lil Tinkerbell has been granted provisional membership. They will assess her further through Saturday workshops and from there inform us on their decision to convert the membership to full.

I found it very flattering at first when her kindy director pointed out that she has been reading and the fact that she is the only child who can read in kindy astonishes them. Not only can she read but her conversational skills are exceptional as well as she has a tendency to sound very adult'ish'.

For instance, we were crossing the road one day and i told her to cross carefully as a car was approaching us. She immediately ran to the other side as the car swerved our way and told me.."that was a close one mummy!"

Lil Tinkerbell also loves doing substractions and additions at home using the abacus and her favourite cartoon is The Simpsons! She can actually laugh at some of the jokes but we have to sit in and guide her that some languages are not appropriate to be used.

One thing i realised too is that when we go to the Zoo, she is not only just looking at the animals but she runs to the board and reads what animals they are too. Same thing will happen in a shopping mall when she sees a directory board, she will run to it and find out where we are located in the mall.

The question is I don't know whether she really is gifted or not because I tend to question, is giftedness acquired or innate? I am tempted to have her tested but at the same time, from what i gather from websites, it is still too early to have her tested until later so I guess we probably will wait. The only test I have ever done on her and what I could find was a reading test online which would determine her reading age based on the number of words she can read out and based on that, her reading age is of a 7.5 years old child. (she is only 4 years old)

A summary and quick reflection of her milestones achieved:
(This may or may not sound like a normal child motor skills but I am just writing them out from what I have observed in her)

Started walking by 1 years old.
Started reading by 2.5 years old.
Started sleeping in her own room and stopped wearing nappies at night by 3+
Knows how to switch on and off the computer to play her computer games at 3.
Assembing 15 pieces, 25 pieces, 30 pieces jigsaw puzzles in 15 minutes.
Assembled 48 pieces jigsaw puzzle within 30 minutes and now we are giving her a 60 piece and 100 piece to work on.

Hmm..would be interesting to see how she progresses later in life. It could just be a growth spurt for all you know..i wonder..

Happy Mother's Day

It was Mother's Day yesterday and the kids made a special Mother's Day card for me. My first handmade card from them and I am thrilled at it. It may not be a work of Picaso and it may not have cost alot but the results were just as amazing to me!

HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY TO ALL MUMS!

After 2 years..and still waiting

2 years ago, I decided to take the biggest step in my life and that was to migrate to Australia.

With my husband's blessing, I went alone initially to a state called Adelaide and decided to make it home. I left behind my hubby and two growing babies back in Malaysia.

Initially, coming here wasn't exactly my ideal situation because I wasn't prepared financially and emotionally. Thankfully with God's blessing, I managed to stick around and complied with my 2 years condition stay here. It was a struggle because we couldn't afford to have our kids with us in the first year itself so they had to stay back with their grandparents but we pulled through and finally during our second year, Ironchef managed to get a job and everything fell into place including our kids.

On the 5.5.09, we finally submitted in our application for a full conversion of our PR and although there is another 3-6 months wait before we are able to get it approved, at least we are able to now get a Medicare card each. All Australians have a medicare card which allows them to see a doctor for free or admit into a public hospital for free.

We on the other hand were only able to get our hands on them recently. Well, it was worth the wait and i hope we get news of our PR soon..

Getting back into the routine

It has been a week full of adjustments. My Lil Tinkerbell officially started going to kindy last week and she now attends kindy four days a week from Mondays to Thursdays last week.

Monday & Tuesday - 12.15 - 3.00pm
Wednesday & Thursday - 8.45 - 11.30am

Having to adjust to those weird times of the day proved to be successful so far and I managed to also fit in my workout schedule to coincide with her timing.

The only challenging bit is The getting up from bed early in the morning because my kids like me are nocturnal kids. They are very quiet and relaxed doing their own thing during the day but once the sun sets, once the moon is up.. that is when they start screaming and jumping and gosh..my whole house is awake at night and only at night!! Come visit my house during the day is like visiting a museum but come at night..it is a different scenario altogether!

But i miss having my girl at home though, watching her say goodbye to me at kindy while she walks to her classroom alone, I am waiting for the hour to pass so i can pick her up and hug her again while she chatters away about her day makes me realise how big she is already and next year when she finally steps into the real world going to school..omigosh..the thought of seeing her in her school uniform..i don't know..my heart wants everything to stop right now. I don't want things to go so fast.

Even lil rascal is going to start kindy next year. My lil rascal, the boy who only knows how to say "NO" to things..the boy who refuses to sit in the potty, the boy who is soo loud but loves to sing and his favourite songs are "Papa, don't go home" and "Papa, don't kill spider!" is finally going to be a big boy himself!

Sigh..how time flies..

My Wish List..

I decided to come up with a My Wish List so that for Mother's day, I have options for the kids to choose from..hahah..i know i sound mean but i can't help it. Hey, i didn't invent Mother's day :P

At first, I thought it would be easy to come up with a list but it is actually not as easy as i thought because each time i thought of something, i would have a reason for not wanting them..so it becomes more of a "i want than i need" urge. Nonetheless, i still decided to write the list together with my reasons beside them.

1) Iphone - will be getting it in August this year but i still thought i would write this in.
2) Ipod - don't really need em now since the Iphone will have Ipod functions.
3) 10" digital photo frame with built in MP3 and movie features
4) Wii - Although i don't really need them now cause the kids are still too young and i don't want them to be addicted to it and that goes the same for the big kid in the house as well.
5) A big big HOLIDAY..

and the list ends...see not as easy as i thought. The thing is, i don't know what else i could need or want. I got my video camera last year from Ironchef and I got my electric toothbrush this morning so both are now eliminated from my list.

Hmm...any more interesting gift ideas??
